What Treatment To Be Taken For UTI And Severe Lower Back And Pelvic Pain?

Hello Doctor, thank you for your time. My mother a 62 year olds, suffers for years from urinary tract infections and sever lower back and pelvic pain. She has been treated several times with Cypro and she also gets stomach bloating. She also has sever Osteoporosis and has H plyori, caused from a Dododunal Ulcer manyears years back (she takes medication for both of these aswell). Recently the pain in the lower back has become intolerable and we saw a urologist, who presecribed Furolin (Nitrofurantion 100mg, per day). This medicine increases the stomach pain. He told her to take this as a precaution to avoid bactirial infections, he said that her bladder has weakened and she must take this as a precaution. This is not working she is in sever pain and discomfort. Is there any alternative that you can recommend? I believe taking so much medication could be part of the problem

Thanks for the question. UTI can be treated with ciprofloxacin or Levofkoxacin or Nitrofurantoin. These drugs have side effect such as abdominal pain. You can take gastric protector such as sucralfate syrup to relief gastric pain.

Your mother should drink enough water (2 L) daily to avoid recurrent of UTI.

May this answer helps you. Regards.
