What To Do In Case Of A Prolonged Swelling In The Leg?

Hello, I took a hard fall onto the pavement on New Year s Eve (not due to drinking, but due to not paying attention to the step on my sister s porch) and did a full body slam onto my right side. I did not seek medical attention because I felt since I was able to get up and walk, nothing was broke and I would probably have a couple of bumps and/or bruises....which I did. My right leg took the major force of the fall as well as my ankle which as now healed as well as the bruising. However, the swelling on the side of my leg is still there. Since it s been 3 weeks should I be worried? I use ice packs almost daily and it does seems to be going down, but very slowly. It was a very hard fall.

welcome to healthcaremagic forum.
thanks for the detailed information given.since there is swelling even after 3 weeks, there is probability of an underlying bone injury(which is obviously a minor one),which may need immobilization of the area for better healing...so it is better to take an x-ray.mean while, you also take analgesics(even if no pain,it will decrease the swelling)
i hope this information might help you.thank you.
