Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Atheletes foot Or Tinea pedis is common between the fingers spaces and presents as moist/macerated skin, peeling, redness, itching and sometimes pain and swelling if secondary bacterial infection supervenes.
If I was the treating doctor, I would have asked you to apply a
topical antifungal cream e.g either
ketoconazole , sertaconeazole or Luliconazole, twice daily for 4-6 weeks.
Simultaneously I would have also started you on
Oral antifungal e.g fluconazole or
itraconazole . Antifungals (oral+topical) are prescription drugs.
An OTC oral antihistamine e,g cetrizine 10 mg once daily would provide you symptomatic relief from itching.
It is important to keep the spaces between toe as dry as possible; measures such as air drying the involved spaces after bath and opting to wear slippers and sandals rather than shoes go a long way in the overall management
Once the condition resolves, an antifungal dusting powder e.g
clotrimazole dusting powder can be used regularly to prevent a recurrence.
