Hello,
In case of having irregular heavy bleeding the first step is to rule of factors that cause it. I hope you have been evaluated for that, if not please try to do the following tests
1. Blood count to rule out anemia due to heavy bleeding
2. TSH test
3. Serum prolactin
4. Ultrasound pelvis to rule out secondary causes like cysts, fibroids, polyps, PCOD
5. Endometrial sampling
If these tests have already been done and if it is normal then you can consider taking any of the following medication:
1.
Mefenamic acid +
Tranexamic acid 3 times a day during periods
2.
Medroxyprogesterone acetate tablet (starting with 5 mg and increasing by 5mg increments)
3. Mirena (
intrauterine device)
4. DMPA
5. GnRH analogues
If any of the tests was abnormal, its management will depend on the cause. If the tests were normal, you can try any of the above pills after discussing with your health care provider. If these pills don't work, you may have to proceed with more definite measures like
endometrial ablation or hysterectomy (as a last resort).
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
