What Other Than Cipro & Pyridium Can Treat UTI, Low Belly Pain, Pain After Clearing The Bladder?

Hi, I started having pain with sex about 4 days ago and then pain with urination (esp towards the end of emptying my bladder), urgency even after emptying the bladder, and low belly pain, & blood in my urine 3 days ago. I called my doctor and he called in 3 days of cipro and pyridium for UTI. I am now finishing day 3 and I have been drinking copius amounts of water and cranberry juice. I still have pain at the end of clearing my bladder, low belly pain, and urgency and feeling that I always have to pee. My blood has subsided. Should I get a different antibiotic?

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

The best solution in such situation is urine culture test. This will allow to determine which bacteria is causing your infection and which antibiotic will be the best. This should be done if regular UTI treatment does not help.

After 3 days of treatment usually all symptoms are gone. If not, different antibiotic should be considered depending of the urine culture result.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
