What Led To A Prolonged Delay In Periods?

I am 38yrs old I had total body radiation, chemo, & stem cell transplant 10 yrs ago due to ALL.I ve had menopausal hormone levels with no period for 10 years.I just had a 6 day period & now my hormone levels are pubescent. The GYN I ve see 2times in the past 2yrs says not to worry, I m young & there is no reason why I couldn t have these hormone levels & a period.I ve called my oncologist & not gotten a return call.I m trying not to worry, but am leaning toward a 2nd and 3rd GYN opinion. What are your thoughts?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Chemotherapy can lead to cessation of menstruation and hypo functioning of ovaries. Occurrence of vaginal bleeding after cessation for ten years could be due to hormonal imbalance.

Hormonal imbalance can occur due to endometrial hyperplasia. I suggest you to consult your gynecologist for clinical assessment, pelvic ultrasound and endometrial biopsy if required for diagnosis and thus management.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
