What Is The Treatment For Swollen And Painful Eyelid?

2 weeks ago I woke up with a painful eyelid and it was swollen. I used baby shampoo to wash it out and warm compresses. It got very large and swollen before it went back to normal, however, it left me with a red spot inside my upper eyelid that has a tiny white spot within that red area. The dr have me antibiotic ointment to use but my vision gets very bad, I get headaches and my eye swells the morning after each use. Any suggestions as to what it is or how else to treat it?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello
It seems from the history that you are having swollen and painful eyelid and this can be because of inflammatory disease of the glands of the eyelids.
The tiny white spot inside the red spot indicates hordeolum internum or externum.
The treatment is by use of antibiotic eye drops or eye ointments and oral anti-inflammatory drugs and hot compression to the swollen area.
Since eye ointments contain lipid base they tend to cause blurring of vision as they cover the cornea, hence you can use antibiotic eye drops instead of eye ointments.

Thank you
