What Is The Treatment For Iron Deficiency?

Hi, My name is Benu Khanna. My daughter who will be 2yrs this month, has Iron deficiency. Our doctor gave her Orofer-XT. She has been having these drops since March 2013. Initially her HB- 7.5 last year and her Iron percentage was 77%. We repeated the tests 3 times last year there were just minor improvements. Our doctor also advised for Thalassemia test, but everything was normal. But today again when we repeated the tests as advised by our doctor, her HB- 12.3 and Iron % was 67.77. The iron quantity has reduced. My daughter is a very active child. She doesn t sleeps during day, late at night and still on her toes all the time... I am allergic to Iron so i was unable to take Iron supplements during my pregnancy. My daughter eats everything. Since the day we found about her reduced HB and Iron deficiency first last year, her weight has also not increased. The doctor says she is strong from withing...as she eats everything and never rests and very active. she has only gained 1 kilo i.e. from 9 to 10 kg. I am not satisfied with Orofer-XT drops...Please suggest some tonics to cover her Iron problem.

Thanks for the query.
Eating healthy foods is the most important way to prevent and treat iron deficiency. Good sources of iron include- Apricots, Chicken, turkey, fish, and other meats, Dried beans, lentils, and soybeans, Eggs, Liver, Molasses, Oatmeal, Peanut, butter, Prune juice, Raisins and prunes, Spinach, kale and other greens.

Among medcines you can give orofer xt or some other drops like tonoferon drops.

Also remember that reduce the milk intake as it is the poor source of iron.
Also limit the outside junk food.

Hope i helped you.
