Hello
Hypertension is defined as consistently elevated BP, more than 130/85. The EKG finiding of biatrial enlargement suggests the blood pressure has been elevated at least for a couple of months.
First step is to decrease salt and alcohol intake. As you mention hypertension can be hereditary, and can lead to mini strokes (TIA's).
There are multiple medications that help to decrease blood pressure, including calcium channel blockers, beta blockers, angiotensin receptor blockers, and diuretics, among others. You should work with your physician to decide which medication is the best for you specifically. The choice of medication depends on your health history and personal preference.
It is also a good idea to get and echocardiogram as there was biatrial enlargemrnt on the EKG to check the ejection fraction and valves.
Best regards
