What Is The Treatment For MS?

I am 15 months pregnant and need to see a neurologist due to possible early symptoms of MS, my OB says no one will see me until after I deliver and that I will need to wear the catheter until I deliver due to urinary retention, will a neurologist be able to test me pregnant for MS?

I am a neurologist and can say 2 things......1) Your OB is correct in noting that a definitive diagnosis of MS would not be possible by a neurologist until after delivery simply because you are not able to get an MRI of the brain which would be considered pretty standard and necessary before ruling in or out the diagnosis.

2) Are you really 15 MONTHS pregnant? Did you mean 15 WEEKS? Otherwise, I'd be wondering what else could be going on here....and perhaps MS isn't what we should be thinking of so much as maybe your not wanting to finish off the pregnancy! LOL! NOT!

But there is one other thing and that is I as a neurologist see nothing wrong with or even "wasted" in terms of visitation with a neurologist who could also examine you easily (15 weeks is not THAT far along that you can't do certain maneuvers easily of a motor nature) just to start getting elements of the history together and a neurological examination. The only thing that you could not get would be the imaging study as I've said before.

To that end, I am a neurologist who treats and writes about MS in pregnant and nonpregnant women so if you'd like to land on my page and ask me or present me with any specific information I'd be happy to give you some preliminary opinions on your condition. Of course, I don't know where you're at in the world....and there is certainly nothing like PHYSICALLY HAVING you present to see and to examine...I'm in Cleveland, Ohio.

At any rate- here's where you could write to me if you wanted:

May the rest of the pregnancy be happy and successful....(whether 15 weeks or 15 months!) :0
