Hello,

The emergency contraceptive pill contains high doses of progesterone and this leads to withdrawal bleeding after using the pill. Also, the next natural period is delayed by a week or two. If you have taken the pill within the stipulated time after an unprotected intercourse, you are 99% protected. Please wait for a week after the expected period and if there is no period, see your health care provider for further management.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shanti Vennam, OBGYN
