What Is The Prognosis For This MRI Report?

hello, I underwent microdisectomy in 2011. the investigation report of then mentions, MRI lumbar: degenerative disease of L/S spine with mild central spinal canal stenosis at L3/L4/L5 level. Broad based posterior disc prolapse at L4-L5 level compromising with spinal canal and lateral neural foramina of Lt side with impression over the traversing L5 root of Lt side. Broad based posterior disc prolapse at L5-s1 level compromising with spinal canal and lateral neural foramina of rt side with impression over the traversing S1 root of Rt side. I was fine until recently and then I started to feel pain in the right lower and upper pain. lower is more painful. However it is not serious condition. and then I visited the consultant and he prescribed the medicines named Emsolone - 5mg 28tabs, Acenil- 100mg 14tabs, Rab-20mg 14tabs, Pregaba- 75 mg 42tabs. I finished this course but still the pain is not relieved. what do you think could be next approach?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per the MRI report, the condition is related to age related changes of degeneration of spinal cord elements. Over and above the intake of analgesic and anti inflammatory medications:
- Adaptation of certain posture to avoid pain peak
- Assisted physiotherapy
- Wax bath, steam therapy or laser therapy of pain relief
- Epidural analgesia and patch therapy as fentanyl or others for better results
- Regular aerobics as per the guidance of physio
- Control of body weight
- Supportive belts to wear during mobilisation and working

Depending upon the response of above, clinician will decide further course of action as stereotactic surgery, spinal fusion or other is needed or not.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
