hi iam Dr.Nallammai

welcome to healthcare magic

as ur dad is having cirrhosis fr past 18 yrs..it is a risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma(hcc)..the thing u should do to diagnose hcc early is USG every 6 months and AFP also.. as his AFP was negative it doesnt mean that he doesnt mean that he has not developed hcc..since that test has poor sensitivity and poor specificity..

as he had gross wt loss..i suggest you to do USG every 6 months and liver biopsy once..it is not to frighten u..it is to do early diagnosis and treat him early..

wt loss may also be due to diabetes treatment..but not this gross..

so it is good to investigate him for hcc
