What Is The Life Expectancy Of Someone With Liver Cirrhosis And Esophageal Varices?

Hello, My husband is suffering from liver cirrhosis with varices. There is no bleeding yet. Doctos said it is stable liver disease. Doctor will be performing glue procedure. What should be the diet followed? What is life expectancy? and should we enroll for transplant?

Hi,

Life expectancy varies a lot with multiple clinical parameters and disease pathology type, spread etc.

But the stable liver disease has the expectancy of long years unless rapid deterioration intermittently.

The diet should be figured out by metabolic evaluation of cholesterol profile, but in general should contain least of dairy fat, non-veg. Strict avoidance of smoking, alcohol if consuming.

Again transplant requirement has to be discussed with the transplant surgeon itself as this platform is not sufficient to answer that query.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
