What Is The Ideal Heart Beat For 5 Year Old Child?

I have a 5 year old who has been running a fever since yesterday - 101 and has a congested cough and no runny nose. She coughs often and I can feel her rapid heart rate adn when she is sleeping you can hear her breathing rapidly. What should her heart rate be and what is the best way to measure it?

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hello,

During fever, it is very common for the heartbeat to be faster. So there is no need to measure the heartbeat during fever. The the best traditional way is to check the pulse or the other way is to check it with a pulse oximeter.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
