What Is The Chronic Swelling In Tonsils And Blood In Saliva?
Hi, I have had swollen tonsils and white spots on them for about 2 months. I have had 1 7 day course of amoxicillin at 1000mg 4 times a day and 1 7 day course of penicillin at 250mg 4 times a day. These reduced the white spots on them a little but now I have a little blood on the tonsils and spit blood quite often. I have felt shaky, lost my balance and disorientated for most of the time. I have had blood tests Plasma C reactive protein, Urea and electrolytes, Thyroid hormone, Liver function, Full blood count, Erythocyte Sedimentation rate, Infections mononucleoses tests that have all come back normal. Any Ideas

Hello,
White spots on the tonsils indicate acute follicular tonsillitis for which you have already taken antibiotics.
1. Do you still have fever?
2. Does your throat still hurt? any difficulty in swallowing?
3. Any chest pain?
With the symptoms you mentioned (White spots and blood in sputum), it can still be sub clinical infection if you are running fever, but if there is no fever then these are post infection symptoms which is normal in case of tonsillitis. Loss of balance, disorientation is due to dehydration which is very common in tonsillitis. With all your labs being normal, I don't think there is anything to worry about since these labs screen other possible causes of acute / chronic infections.
My suggestions are:
1. Drink enough water and take lots of fluids
2. Warm saline gargles (Help relive swelling, pain and congestion)
3. Tab Tylenol 2 tabs as and when needed
4. Tab Zyrtec 10mg - 7 days (Keep the secretions low in throat)
Schedule a visit with ENT surgeon if symptoms persist or for follow up (Possible tonsillectomy if there is an indication).
