What Is The Cause Of Milky Discharge From Nipple?

I am 20 years old and I have oily milk coloured substance coming from my right nipple. It hasn't appeared in my left nipple. It comes out more when I squeeze my right breast. I don't think I'm pregnant I'm on the micronor for birth control and always practice safe sex. My next period should start in the next two weeks. They tend to be a little irregular due to the mini pill but my doctor assured me that was normal. What could this be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Suggestive of hyperprolactinemia. Birth control pills like micronor are known to cause increased production of hormone prolactin which results in galactorrhea (milky nipple discharge) despite not being pregnant and menstrual irregularities. I advise you to consult your treating doctor to change the dose of mincronor or switch to another safer method of birth control.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
