What Is The Cause For Rapid Degeneration When Diagnosed With Degenerative Disc Disease?

My Husband has Degenerative Disk Disease. He has had multiple herniated disks throughout his back (from c3 to l7). He also has Cervical Spinal Stenosis and Bone Spurs. He has had three surgeries, over 20 shots, taken multiple pain meds. But he still suffers severely, has numbness and tingling in his legs and arms, and will often fall or drop things. Everything I read says that Degenerative Disk Disease is not a disease but a normal part of aging. So here is my question: How can it not be a Disease in my husbands case? He is only 45 and the first signs of this disease started in his early 30s. He is not obese, doesn t smoke, and has not had any injuries. Could there be another medical issue causing this rapid degeneration?
