What Is The Cause For Fishy Smelling Discharge After The Surgery?
I had a supercervical historectomy on 7-30. About 4-5 days later started having a fishey smaelling discharge. At my one week apt dr said it could be from the surgery. I still have the discharge and it is now orangeish yellow and smells bad. Is this a normal side effect?
A slight discharge may occur after hysterectomy and is more common after a supracervical surgery. A fishy smell indicates more of an infection called bacterial vaginosis, so please see your doctor and get a whiff test and clue cell test. Also a vaginal swab test and a cervical swab test will be needed to look for any other infection. If it is there then antibiotics will help in cure.
Also please maintain perineal hygine, change the undergarments twice daily and wash them in hot water to prevent reinfection.
Do not worry, these are not uncommon issues and can be cured easily.
