What Is The Cause For Bleeding After The Menstural Periods?

hello, im 18 and have started my first packet of birth control 10 days ago. im on carazette, whenever i started taking it i wasnt on my period but the doctor said i could start it as my period was due that week, my period came on wednesday (today last week) as normal and should have ended on sunday. towards the end as usual i started having brown blood as my period was coming to an end, but 3 days after my period should have ended im still experiencing brown substances down there. its not excessive i dont have to wear a pad or anything, but whenever i wipe its there, its very mild, but i noticed there is some blood, im a bit concerned as this has never happened before, is this a side effect of my pill or something else? im very worried.

Hi,

Hormonal contraceptive pills can present with irregular spotting as a side effect. Usually it will take a few months after starting the hormonal pills for regularization of hormonal levels and for subsidence of side effects.

Cerazette contains Desogestrel, which is a progesterone only contraceptive pill. It should be taken at the same time everyday, altering the time or missing the tablet can lead to withdrawal bleeding.

So, you have to maintain the schedule as per your doctor's advice and possibly the brownish discharge will subside soon. If it recurs in next periods also, better to consult Gynecologist once, get evaluated and take treatment accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri SR
