I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis and the doctor suggested zolendronic acid infusions . After some research I decided not to take that injections because of side effects. What are my options as far as medications. I also have Barrett’s asophogus!

Hello,

It is difficult to reverse osteoporosis altogether but lifestyle changes do help to manage it. Medications are effective to slow down the bone breakdown, you have been prescribed Zolendronic acid to increase bone strength & reduce the chances of fracture. You can take a limited amount to stay away from side effects, consult your treating doctor.

There are other medications (pills) that you can take orally Alendronate (Fosamax), Ibandronate (Boniva) that are equally effective but may cause hot flashes & blood clots.

Menopausal women can have HRT, it is effective. Take calcium rich food & vitamin D, milk, cheese, yogurt, liver, saltwater food. Stop all addictions, avoid smoking, alcohol. Exercise regularly & avoid inactivity.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

As far as osteoporosis is concerned the combination of allopathy and physiotherapy guided exercise should help you achieve maximum results.

The safest way to deal with osteoporosis is to use calcium and vitamin D3 supplement in a prescribed dosage by the physician. taking sunbath will help improve the vitamin D3 levels and including the milk products will help for the calcium part. doing simple weight-bearing exercises in low intensity under a guided physiotherapist should help you achieve good bone composition and avoid troubles caused due to osteoporosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
