What Is Best Diet For Acute Pancreatitis?

I have acute pancreatitis and I have tried to find the best diet to follow. It seems they all contradict themselves. What is a good diet to follow? Some sites say eat broccoli, cabbage, butter, eggs etc...other sites say do not? I would appreciate an honest answer.Thank you so much,Mikki

Welcome! I understand your concerns and will try to give you meal ideas to help with the pancreatitis. You are taking your enzyme supplements, correct?

1.Avoid all alcohol, caffeine, nicotine
2.Small portions at a time are better than eating large meals
3.Pay attention to B-complex, vitamin C and selenium (most are present in multi-vitamins)
4.Omit all gassy vegetables such as brocolli, cauliflower and cabbage
5.To reduce the gas from lentils cook them once to a full boil. Drain the water, fill with fresh water and cook again. The gassey compounds should have been drained away from the first cook.
6. May need to take water-miscible forms of fat soluble vitamins (ADEK)
for adequate absorption of these nutrients.

I hope this helps somewhat. Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
