Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What is CR500 Ciprofloxacin HCI 500mg prescribed for? I found this single pill when I picked up my sealed 90 pills of Escitalopram 20mg tablets. Bottled was new, sealed, and stuffed with cotton. I just found this single pill in the mix when I was filling this weeks evening pill container.
Thank you for the query. Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride is a broad spectrum antibiotic belonging to the fluroquinolone class. They are also known as Topoisomerase inhibitors. It is a very potent drug and used to treat bacterial infections like Urinary tract infection, Lower respiratory tract infection (like pneumonitis specially community aquired infections), acute bacillary dysentery and gastroenteritis and enteric fever. The recommended dose is 500mg twice a day (where all blood parameters are normal). It can cause minor side effects like nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. This group of drug is however, better to be avoided in children as it hampers the cartilage growth. Probably you were prescribed this medicine for some infection (those I have mentioned above). Hope this helps you out.
