What Exercises Are Safe If I Have An Aneurysm?

I am a white 73 year old male who exercises and weight lifts on a regular basis. I recently was diagnosed with a 4x3.67 cm aneurysm. My local dr said I could still lift weights , but not more than 20 lbs. What exercises are safe and which ones should be avoided.

Hello sir,
Im dr.hema physiotherapist.

Heavy Exercise poses a risk for people with cerebral aneurysms because exercise can cause a rapid rise in blood pressure, which increases the risk of aneurysmal rupture. This risk is further increased with increasing size of the aneurysm.

But an unruptured aneurysm is detected, lifestyle changes such as healthy eating and exercise can decrease the risk of its rupture.

Eating a healthy diet and limiting caffeine intake will help lower blood pressure. Other precautions include avoiding heavy lifting, heavy activities.

Safe exercise also leads to angiogenesis, the growth of newblood vessels from pre-existing blood vessels. This serves as treatment and precaution of brain aneurysms.

You can start with low-impact activities and keep your heart rate below 100 beats per minute, like walking or swimming, , general body range exercises to all joints, avoid more stretches.

Additionally, yoga may be beneficial and avoid postures that put pressure on head ie head down positions.

Hope the information helps and guides you in exercise.

In doubt please do reply.
