What Does This Ultrasound Report Of Abdomen Specify?
Hi, I did an abdominal ultrasound today and this is the result Liver is normal in size. There is a subtle 2.6 x 2.1 x 2.8 cm slightly border deforming subcapsular hypoechoic mass anterior segment right liver lobe (segment VIII). This mass has internal Doppler vascularity. No cystic change or shadowing calcification is present within this mass.. The there is mild coarsening and heterogeneity of the remaining liver parenchyma. Liver measures 15.6 cm in length. Could you tell me what this means? Thanks
Hello and welcome to HCM, The ultrasound shows presence of a mass in liver measuring 2.6x2.1x2.8 cm. This mass is present in the right lobe of the liver. The mass shows increase in vascularity, however, no changes like calcification or cystic change seen. Rest of the liver parenchyma shows mild coarsening but no other overt change is seen. No opinion is given regarding the nature of the lesion but I am of the opinion that this liver mass is a vascular tumor or a hemangioma. Hemangioma is a common lesion found in the liver. Hemangioma is a benign and harmless tumor but it may cause intra-abdominal hemorrhage and thus it needs to be kept on regular follow up for this.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
