What Does This Ultrasound Report Indicate?

Hi, Im 60 year old woman. I was having urination problem since last 20 days. My doc sent me for ultrasound which says that my endometrium appears thickened 0.75 cm and Calcified fibroid of 3.5 × 2.4 cm is seen. He GP referred me to gynaecologist. Please tell what my report indicates and what possibilities are there? Hoping your earliest reply. Thanks Sadiqua

Hi,

You have not mentioned the exact urine problem- is it incontinence, frequency or urgency?

The ultrasound indicates that the endometrium(inner lining of uterus) is a bit thickened, and there is a fibroid(benign muscular mass of uterine wall) that has undergone degeneration&calcification. Urine problem is unlikely related to this.

The fibroid is not something to be worried. If no abdominal pain or vaginal bleeding, this can be ignored.

But for thickened endometrium (>5mm) after menopause, you may be asked for further evaluation with hysteroscopy or Dilatation and curettage to rule out neoplastic / atypical hyperplasia. If you don't have vaginal bleeding, there is less chance, but we have to be careful. Your gynecologist will discuss in detail.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
