What Does This Ultrasound Report During Pregnancy Indicate?

Hi my lmp was 06/30/15 I have a gestational sac yolk sac and fetal pole of 4 mm visible but no definite cardiac activity. Ive been estimated at 6 weeks 4 days which is about what I should be. My hcg levels are in the normal range. Should I be worried there was no heartbeat seen?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Presence of gestational sac and fetal pole indicates that you have conceived. You need to have cardiac activity to say that the pregnancy is viable.
The appearance and development of embryonic cardiac activity or fetal pulsations occurs by 6 weeks. But it is usually detected or picked up by ultrasound scan between 8 to 10 weeks of pregnancy.
Hence, you need to get a scan done after 2 weeks to look for cardiac activity.
Until then, relax. Eat healthy diet and keep yourself hydrated.
Hope the information provided is clear.
All the best.
