What Does This Thyroid Ultrasound Report Indicate?

I recieved the results to my thyroid ultrasound and I don t understand it: right lobe of the thyroid measures 5.6x2.1x1.8cm. the isthmus has a thickness of 0.3cm. There is a slightly heterogenous right midpole nodule present measuring 0.7x0.8x0.5cm. A posterior left midpole poorly defined nodule present measuring 1.8x1.5x0.8cm. The inferior and anterior aspect of the left lobe contains a hypoechoic nodule measuring 1.2x1.2x0.5cm. Overall, the gland appears somewhat heterogenous in echotexture. There is some increase in vascularity. May be compatible with a multinodular goiter.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, thanks for posting on HCM.
From the USG report it is suggesting that you might have multinodular goiter which means that you have thyroid gland in which there are hyper activated nodules which are working abnormally more and causing more secretion of thyroxine hormone. Overall it causes condition called as hyperthyroidism.
Do you experience swelling in the neck region? And is that the reason for you to undergo USG? I am asking it because you haven’t mentioned it.
Even if it is so, it’s a treatable condition. You need to get a thyroid study done consisting of serum TSH, free T3 and free T4. Depending on the results it will show whether the USG findings compliment the blood report finding.
If it is diagnosed that you have hyperthyroidism due to multinodular goiter, there are medications you need to take for the treatment and the presenting symptoms will reduce with time.
I hope I answered your query satisfactorily.
Thank you
