Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
May I ask whats the meaning of my CXR, my first CXR result was there are infiltrates in the right upper lobe. The rest of the lungs are clear. The hila and pulmonary vessels are within normal limits. So the doctor advised me to take medicines for two months for evaluation. But my sputum is negative. And I have history of PTB when I was 3 years old and I also treated for 6months. After two months, my Chest X-ray result is There is partial clearing of the right upper lobe infiltrates. The hila and pulmonary vessels are within normal limits. Can I ask whats the meaning of this? And if I have to continue taking medicines? Thank you.
Hi & Welcome. Based on the history and the chest x ray findings you seem to be suffering from reactivation of lung tuberculosis for which your doctor prescribed initial treatment for 2 months.
Now since it is in the resolving stage, continue to take the antibiotics for another 4 months for total eradication of the infection.
A negative sputum for AFB does not rule out infection.
Diagnosis of tuberculosis is based on the history, clinical findings, certain lab tests like ESR, sputum for AFB, and chest x ray.
Take a high protein nutritious diet, fresh fruits and vegetables along with the prescribed treatment.
Hope this answers your query.
