Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does This PSA Level Of 0.01 Post Lupron Injection Treatment Indicate?
I have had 25 months of Lupron injection treatments so far. My Radiation Oncologist suggested 2 to 3 years of this hormone treatment, while my Urologist suggested that 2 years was enough. My Urologist then said to have PSA tests every 3 months and if the PSA levels rose to 7 or 8 then we could restart the Lupron injections again. My present PSA is 0.01 right now. This all started with a 66.0 PSA level, and a 7 Gleason score (3+4) in mid 2014. What is your opinion of this?
* The extremely low levels of PSA is due to hormone suppression of testosterone production via Lupron through the hypothalamus-pituitary axis.
* Over a period of 3-4 weeks the normal level gets stabilized while on hormone therapy.
* Be in regular follow up with your urologist for further care.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
