What Does This MRI Report Indicate?

I have a left femur 21/2 inches shorter than right with a rod in it, hips hurting quite a bit sometime with numbness shooting down both legs also a MRI that say 1-Large central and right sided disc herniation at L4-5 ,2-central disc protrusion at L3-4, and Mld disc bulge at L5-S1. I also have broken left collar bone with a spur in it with a torn rotator cuff. witch is very painful most of the time with lower back , hip and leg pain where the break has been for over 30 years now. history on femur, was it took 9 years and and 2 different rods before it findly healed. I think the femur pain now is because of my age . almost 60 and now I have laid off of work and not find a job because everything that is wroung with me,i am taking T-4 and drazadone for pain and sleep. I have applied for S.S.disablity, don t know if will will be able to receive it yet. please tell me what do you think? Kerry Randazzo

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The MRI report is indicative of age related changes with narrowing of the intervertebral disc spaces due to possible osteoporosis and calcium homeostasis imbalance. My guidelines for the relevant of the condition:
- Continue current medications for pain (but do consume regularly when the pain scale is above 5 out of 10, to avoid drug dependance)
- Assisted physiotherapy
- Keep mobilising including aerobics (up to the level of pain allowing)
- Control of body weight
- Remaining in regular follow up of orthopedic specialist help to make needed changes in the therapy of current status
- Supplemental calcium and multi vitamins, anti-oxidants do serve best on intermittent basis

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
