Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

His stool report indicates there is blood in his stool. Causes include:
- Anal fissure (a tear in the skin in his anus)
- Cow's milk or soy milk allergy
- Intsusception (one portion of intestines folds into another portion causing intermittent crying with passage of stools that look like currant jelly).

In addition there are pus cells in the stool. Pus cells are a sign of infection. With both red blood cells and pus cells, it is likely that your infant has infectious colitis. This is an infection of the colon; both red blood cells and pus cells are coming from an inflamed colon.

Does he have diarrhea? The presence of yeast cells is not significant. Excuse me, but I do not know what "offline" blood is.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Arnold Zedd,
Pediatrician
