What Does The Following CT Scan Report Suggest?

My Carotid CT says The left vertebral artery is patent. The origin and proximal to mid right vertebral artery are nonopacified suggesting occlusion. There is contrast opacification within diminutive distal right vertebral artery at distal C5-C6 level. There is mild luminal narrowing at the origin of the left internal carotid artery (less than 50% diameter stenosis). There is calcific plaque mixed with eccentric soft plaque at the origin of the right internal caritod artery and scattered calcific plaque in the proximal to mid right internal carotid artery. There is less than 50% luminal stenosis of the right internal carotid artery by diameter. The distal internal carotid arteries are patent. Anything seem urgent to you?

Hi,

It would have been nice to know more about your background, facts like age, sex, risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, history of stroke or other blood vessel issues. These are all factors involved when speaking of risk, not the Angio CT alone.

If by urgent you mean having some urgent intervention like surgery or stenting then the answer is no, none of those findings warrants that. However an urgent evaluation from your primary physician about vascular risk factors like those mentioned above is needed.

Medication with blood thinners like Aspirin and a statin should be initiated. Such measures are necessary to prevent further vessel changes and stroke from happening in the future.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olsi Taka,
