General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Beta-HCG (Choriogonadotrpin) is a hormone, whose levels is determined to confirm pregnancy as well as monitor the progress of pregnancy. It helps to mainten of the corpus luteum during the beginning of pregnancy.
The report what you have shared suggests the reference range values for comparison with test values, which needs to be obtained when tested in blood sample. There should be a sustained increase in the hormone levels up to 12 weeks of pregnancy. There after, it is not significant as placenta would have developed and takes up the role of maintenance of pregnancy.
If the value is 5 IU/L, then it says that the person is not pregnant.
Hope the information provided is clear.
