What Does The Chest X-ray Report Indicate?

I m a female age 66. Non smoker and drink on occasion. I recently had a chest X-ray for checkup. Was told I have an enlarged heart. I had a EKG AND IT WAS FINE. I TAKE BETA BLOCKER AND ACE INHIBITOR FOR HBP. MY CHOLESTEROL IS GREAT. I ALSO TAKE A STATIN AND FISH OIL AS WELL AS NIASPAN. MY BP IS FINE. WAS 118/70. I have had stress for about six years but am fine now. I have no problems other than the normal age things. Wondering if there are any of the re cautions to be aware of.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since your chest X-ray showed enlarged heart, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a cardiologist at the earliest and get all routine cardiac function tests done. Continue to take prescription medicines for hypertension and other ailments. If obese do regular walking to reduce weight. Quit addictions if any. Limit salt & alcohol intake. Take healthy home made food to reduce your chance of developing heart failure.

Take diet high in fruits and vegetables. Take lean poultry, fish, low-fat dairy, and whole grains. Avoid intake of saturated and trans fats and fried food, full fat dairy products, sugary drinks, carbs, refined flour, etc. Avoiding tobacco, caffeine, alcohol and illicit drug. Get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
