My MRI report state"nonspecific increased white matter signal intensity. Etiologies may include early chronic ischemic cahnge, demyelinating process or possibly vasculitis. Clinical correlation is recommended. I am 46 and suffer from migraines. What does this mean?
Hi, Thanks for choosing healthcaremagic. In many middle aged and elderly people there are few abnormal signal intensities in the brain parenchyma which is of no clinical significance. Most of the times it is because of chronic ischemic changes. The findings has to be correlated clinically and with other lab investigations if any. In your case, it seems that it is because of chronic ischemic changes which are due to aging and nothing can be done about it. It will not affect you in your daily work and will not cause any problem. Migraine is for a different reason and not because of those abnormal signal intensities. Demyelinating changes and vasculitis can also cause these changes but clinical presentation will be different and you will have other symptoms rather than only headache. Hope it sorts your problem and wishing you a speedy recovery. Regards, Dr. Pankaj Nagori Specialist Radiologist
