What Does "gestational Sac Is Not Defined" Mean In A Pregnancy?
Hi,i am 5 weeks n a few days pregnant,had an ultrasound scan last sat n my gynae put me on gestin 5mg daily,says the gestational sac isn't 'defined',i also ave lower abdominal pain not very serious,no bleeding at all,i want to know if all is well with my baby,thanks

I understand your concern.
Normally w well defined gestational sac is seen in sonography by 5 weeks.
Your doctor has found your sac to be not yet defined.& has started with tab gestin.5mg daily.
You have not mentioned about other findings in sonography like- heart beats, yolk sac.
Just ill defined gestational sac suggests-
- a late conception-here scan should be repeated after a gap of minimum 7 days.
- It also can be due to hormonal deficiency. Your doctor seems to feel it's due to less hormones-that's why he has started with Gestin. The scan will be repeated as per treating doctor's opinion for getting correct position of the conception.
* A scan with vaginal probe gives clear view. So I would suggest for it in future scan.
As long as fetal heart beats are normal, the other things can be managed medically.
