What Does Presence Of Blood In Amniotic Fluid Suggest?
At 5 weeks pregnant I was diagnosed with a 5cm hematoma following a heavy red bleed lasting 2 weeks. Since then I ve had some brown spotting. At my 12 week scan I was told there was blood in the amniotic fluid with the baby. I was told this was due to my hematoma leaking in to the sac. They did not seem concerned and the baby is developing well however I am worried. I have read that the baby will begin to swallow the amniotic fluid therefore I m worried about the blood in there. Will it harm the baby? I m due to be rescanned at 16 weeks by a consultant which seems ages away.
Hi, Thanks for your question. I do understand your pain and discomfort. I have seen many cases with similar complaints. Please find my advice below-: 1)Do a USG and talk to your doctor to ruled out these two most common viral infections like (Toxoplasmosis) and (Cytomegalovirus) by doing a blood test. 2)Correct low hemoglobin level
3)Do a full blood count with differential and time to time check for fluid leakages.
I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to me. Wishing you all the best. Thanks,
