What Does Pain In The Neck Indicate?

I am having pain in the frontal part of my neck. Almost like a sore throat pain but is lower in the neck area. Hurts worse when laying on my right side or taking deep breaths. I was recently diagnosed with fluid in my ear and have been using steroid drops. Could this have anything to do with the pain that is in lower down than my throat?
