Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a 12 year old son who says the back of his neck feels hot, and that it hurts for him to turn it in a certain direction. He has not injured it that I know if, because he is not currently involved in any sports, and they do not have recess at his school for the middle school kids. He says he did not hit it on anything, and it has been going on for about a week now.
Neck pain with local heat sensation can happen if a muscle is hurt there. It is true it is most commonly related to sportive activities but it might happen even with daily activities like bending quickly forward to reach something, finding the muscles unprepared for the move and cause muscle fibers to overstretch.
I would recommend you to put some local warm compresses locally and use Paracetamol and Ibuprofen to help with the pain. If no improvement in 2-3 days or any worsening or you notice any redness in the area or any lump please see your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
General & Family Physician
