Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m curious about the misdiagnosis of Fibroaedenoma on Ultrasound. I found a lump in my right breast and had an ultrasound. They were sure it was a FA, 8mm. I went for a follow-up 6mos later and again one year later. I am scheduled for my final chack- a mammogram- next month. They have said each ime that nothing has changed on the US but my breasts feel as if they ve developed cysts since the time I started monitoring them. Is this all par for the course or is it possible that I have been misdiagnosed the whole time? How realiable are ultrasounds for monitoring a FA?
Breast ultrasound is a very good examination for evaluating breast lumps especially if they are followed up in time. In your case, because the lump has not changed much in more than a year, very likely this is a fibroadenoma and there is nothing to worry about.
On the other hand, it is good you are having the mammogram to confirm the nature of the lump.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
