What Does Headache Along With Vomiting And Body Ache Indicate?

My daughter (22 yrs) awoke with a bad headache at 2am on Monday morning. She was trembling and felt like she needed to vomit. The trembling and nausea lasted for about an hour. She was physically sore the next day and has continued to have a head ache. She went to the doctor today. Was told she has slightly slow reflexes. She is scheduled for a cat scan in morning. Is this appropriate....it seemed to me that she might need to be in the hospital now?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Definitely a CT scan is required to diagnose her condition. Headache which wakes someone from sleep early morning is a concern which has to be seriously evaluated. One main dangerous cause that has to be ruled out now is any tumor inside the head. This will be diagnosed or ruled out by CT scan. So wait patiently till the CT scan is done and you get the reports. For acute pain she can consult the doctor and take pain killers. But morning headaches can occur for a variety of reasons. You may experience one once in a while after a poor night’s sleep or when experiencing stress. Types of headaches sometimes associated with morning headaches include: 1. migraine, 2. cluster headache, 3. hypnic headache, 4. tension headache, 5. paroxysmal hemicrania, and 6. medication overuse headache. But first and foremost the most serious cause has to be ruled out.
ope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
