What Does Fibrotic Upper Lobe Suggest?
hi my mom just had an x-ray and the result was fibrotic ptb upper lobe (L) atheromatous aorta, minimal pleural thickening or effusion my question is what are the cause of this. She was never hospitalized because of respiratory problems...my mom is 61 years old, 5 feet tall and i think she's a 100 lbs no medical history of lung problem

Fibrotic PTB means fibrotic stage of pulmonary Tuberculosis. These are chronic changes of previous infection by tuberculosis. Most likely your mother must have had some minor tubercular infection previously which has healed on its own and left behind fibrotic tissue. It is like scar tissue. It does not cause any problem and will just remain like that. Atheromatous aorta - due to aging there is some calcium deposit in the arteries. That is the reason for it but it is of no clinical significance. Minimal pleural thickening/effusion is also of no clinical significance. So, in summary your mother is fine with no relevant present clinical problem. Only some chronic age related changes are present. No need to worry about them.
