What Does Elevated GGT Level Indicate?

Hello Doctor I have done the LFT and KFT today and my bilburin direct is high (0.40 mg/dl) but normal indirect bilburin and normal total bilburin. Also SGOT and SGPT are also normal bu high GGPT (100 U/L). Are the above results or do I need to see the doctor immediately.

Hello. Thanks for asking on Healthcaremagic. Ggt is an enzyme released from the epithelial cells of bile ducts. In inflammation of these cells it will increase. It is more sensitive than alkaline phosphatase for the same. Hence your direct bilirubin is also slightly high. It could be a mild non specific inflammation of the bile ducts. It is though not an emergency. You can show it to your doctor on the next visit. It might resolve on its own. Currently the values are not very high to cause real alarm. Thanks. Hope I helped you with your query.
