What Does An Itchy And Swollen Rash On The Lower Leg Indicate?

Hello! I have what appeared to be a bite on the back of my lower leg. It s red, swollen, and has a black dot in the center; extremely itchy. Today, I found a red line extending from that mark about 10-12 up my leg towards the back of my knee. Any idea what this is?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, I can understand your distress.

It seems to an insect bite, by a bee or wasp or spider. Redness , swelling, itching and soreness can be delayed reactions of our body. Generally it is for a short period, and goes away within 2-3 hours.

The black spot may be a stinger, and you can see it under a magnifying lens. Please try to scrape it, safely.

You may apply cold compress to reduce the swelling. Please use any antihistamine like Tab Cetirizine to reduce itching. Try any local anti-allergic ointment like Fluocinolone.

Consult local physician if the symptoms increase, or if there is no relief.

Best wishes for speedy recovery
