What Does An Elevated Alkaline Phosphatase Count Indicate?

I am a 62 year old female, and an endometrial cancer survivor for 7 yrs. Now I have an elevated alkaline phosphatase count (114) with abdominal pain. Additional testing was ordered to determine where the alkaline phosphatase is coming from, liver, bone or intestines. Is this an indication of possible cancer metastasis?

Hello,

ALP levels rise immediately after a fatty meal as the small intestine releases the enzyme into the bloodstream. Pregnancy usually prompts a rise in ALP due to placental production.

Bile duct obstruction, hepatitis, cirrhosis, fatty liver and liver cancer can all stimulate increases in ALP production.

Advanced stage of cancers the elevation may be due to the spread of the disease to bones or liver.

But don't worry, you ALP not much elevated. Just get a bone scan and pet scan to rule out the secondaries.

Please consult your physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
