What Does A Swollen Lymph Node Under The Jaw Indicate?

Hello, I have a huge concern that s bugging me for over a week now, and I m pretty nervous . I have a lymph node the size of a grape under my jaw, it s very visible and tender. However, I m showing no signs of any viral infections, so my guess is maybe its bacterial. I recently had a dental cleaning, so I m wondering if that may have had anything to do with this. About two months ago I experienced the same situation, but after two weeks or so without any treatment my node went back down to normal size. Pleaseeee, if you have any information or feedback I d greatly appreciate it.

Hi there,
thank you for posting on healthcare magic.
You seem to have an enlarged submandibular or jugulodigastric lymph node.If it is tender it is likely to be inflamed.Dental cleaning or any tooth infection or any inflammation within the oral cavity on adjacent side may have very likely caused the lymphnode to be inflamed. Also if you have poor dental hygiene, that can also cause enlarged submandibular or jugulodigastric lymph nodes.
This is quite common and usually resolves in a week or two or as soon as the causative factor is removed.
However if it continues to grow in size or number and if it does not resolve in three weeks, please see your dentist again for evaluation of the lymph node.He might want to run a few tests.
Hopefully it will not come to that as this commonly clears up on its own in 10-14 days. However if you develop fever or if the pain intensifies, you may need prescription antibiotics to treat the infection.
Hope this helps.
