What Does A Sudden Onset Of Pain In The Ribs Indicate?
Hi I m a mid 50 s woman who woke up this morning feeling fine, did the usual bathroom stuff , then went to make the bed and I got this servere pain where the front ribs meet .Feel sick and exhausted, took 2 20mg Omeprazole which took nearly 3 hours to work, had a cup of tea and 3 gingernuts and that seemed to help but the pain is still there although dull.
If you have a history of IBS, you could get this type of pain due to indigestion & gastritis. Take antacids & PPI's like Pantoprazole(Protonix) or Rabeprazole (Aciphex) after consultation with your PCP.
Rib pain can also occur due to a pinched nerve, muscle strain, injury or fracture of the ribs, costochondritis, pleurisy, pulmonary embolism, fibromyalgia, developing malignancy(cancer).
Get evaluated, get all investigations done & treated at the earliest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
