What Does A Low Blood Platelet Count Mean?

hi - my doctor told me today that I have low blood platelets and will need to see a specialist. he has told me to take it very easy and if I show any signs of bleeding I must go straight to the hospital. This was all during a telephone conversation. i'm now feeling concerned - is this a serious condition?

Low platelet count is called thrombocytopenia. and there are many causes of thrombocytopenia, starting from simple viral infection to life threatning cause. Most of the time in viral infection there is transient thrombocytopenia.it will cure it selfwithin few days. But if you see any sign of bleeding from nose or other site or skin rashes or petechia go to hospital and concern specialist.
