What Do You Suggest For A Swelling On The Forehead After An Injury?

Hi my 4yr old daughter fell and hit her head on concrete. She seemed fine straight after. Then 6 hours later she s sick ,but still seems ok . A bump with swelling and bruising on forehead. Now she sleeping. I ve woken her a few times. If she just moves is that a good sign.

Hi there. I'm sorry to hear about your daughters fall. Let me see if i can help you decide what to do here. From the course of events that you have described, it sounds like your daughter may have a concussion. These are pretty common after a fall or a strike to the head. Concussions are generally benign and the internal swelling in the brain will go away in a day or two.

Rarely the injury can lead to a bleed in the brain. Which can be very serious. Now that it has been 6 hours since her injury and she is sick. I would really like to know what symptoms she has. Nausea, Vomiting, confusion, etc can be symptoms of a worsening bleed. So can excessive sleepiness.

When you try to wake your daughter up. Is it harder to wake her up than under normal circumstances?

If she is having those symptoms, or it is harder to wake her up than in normal circumstances.. I would honestly advise you to take her to the Doctor or your local ER for an examination and possibly an X-ray or a CT scan. Though x-rays and scans are not always needed. The doctor onsite can make that call.

Hope this helps.
